Over a Century of Growth and Caring

Sherman Hospital opened its doors on July 7, 1888, founded by the Elgin Woman's Club in a house donated by local drug store owner and prominent businessman, Henry Sherman. There were four beds and one operating room.

Today, Sherman Health is one of the largest networks of medical care facilities in the far northwest suburbs of Chicago and includes Sherman Hospital, Medical Office Buildings, Sherman West Court, Sherman Home Care Partners and numerous immediate care and Sherman Family HealthCare facilities located throughout the Fox River Valley.

Sherman Hospital was the first not-for-profit community hospital in the state of Illinois and one of the first community governed hospitals in the nation to perform an open heart surgery in 1972. Now, Sherman is recognized as the regional heart center for the northwest suburbs. Other quality hospital services include emergency services (a Level II Trauma Center) adult medical, cancer care, ICU, CCU, Open Heart Unit, orthopedics, outpatient surgery, pediatrics, a birthing center with a neonatal intensive care nursery and rehabilitation services.

For 119 years, Sherman has provided the community with quality and compassionate healthcare and always with an eye toward the future. Always leading the way.
